About
The Goodman pool, Madison’s first municipal swimming pool, opened its doors in 2006. The pool is named after long-time community members and philanthropists Irwin and Robert Goodman who kicked off the pool project by donating $2.8 million.
Five years later, in 2011, the Goodman Waves Swim Team, was founded through a partnership between the City of Madison Parks, the Shelley Glover Foundation (SGF), and the Irwin A. and Robert D. Goodman Foundation to provide an affordable, competitive swim team opportunity for the Madison area community. The team color is purple to reflect Shelley Glover’s favorite color. The Waves joined the Madison All-City Swim & Dive League in 2011, and the Dive Team was founded in 2017 by the City of Madison and Friends of Goodman Waves.
A primary goal of the Waves is to build opportunities and enable access to recreational and competitive swimming and diving to children of all cultural, social, and economic backgrounds through affordable fees, scholarships, and high quality coaching. The Waves are dedicated to fostering a positive environment that helps all children grow as individuals by stressing the values of good sportsmanship, team and community building, and a love of aquatics all while having fun.
